Dads, Step-Dads, Soon to Be Dads, New Dads, Honorary Dads, Grandads, Great Grandads; they deserve some awesome Christmas gifts this year.
I want to celebrate Dads in this blog post and share some gift inspiration. This year why not treat the gents in the family to something from an indie business, something handcrafted, something artisan, something to treasure.
I want to share some of my favourite indie businesses with you to inspire Christmas shopping for Dads in your family:
First up, for the camping, outdoor loving Dads turn to the Single Fin Collective. I love this brand, it’s based just over the Cornwall / Devon Border in Falmouth, they describe themselves perfectly as ‘makers of artwork inspired by the sea’. I am a big fan of the prints this company design and make. A perfect gift for the Dad this Christmas, they also design and make very cool resin pots for Dad’s collection of house plant babies!
For beer loving Dad, another independent maker that has perfect handmade gifts this Christmas is Whiskey and Wine Designs. They handcraft all sorts of really useful and brilliantly designed products from retired whiskey and wine oak barrels. Their product range is vast, from furniture to his and hers coat hooks. I particularly love their wall mounted bottle opener.
For the gardener, bee loving Dad, look to Peter Lanyon, furniture maker in Devon. Amongst his beautifully handcrafted lamps, clocks and furniture, he also makes the most wonderful Dew Drop Bat boxes, Bird Boxes and Bee Homes. The most perfect gift for gardener Dad.
For Dad who deserves to chill; look no further than The Big Beanbag Company. I can’t promise this gift won’t be well loved by all the family. Dad may have to share this awesome Christmas gift handmade in Cornwall. My personal favourite is the Bean Chair. Products are filed with a compostable bio polymer derived from plants so these are completely free from styrofoam. Described as the first truly ‘green’ bean bag, they come in a range of awesome colours.
For rambler Dad look to Moorswood for their iconic ramblers rolls and field rugs. Make socialising outside with Dad a little comfier this year when you stop for hot chocolate with the rambling roll. These field rugs and rambling rolls are made in small batches, handmade in Devon. Made from Natural Fibre materials they are also promised to last a very long time.
Finally for an all rounder gift, head over to Colville Leather for a bespoke, handcrafted leather belt. Made to measure, and made to order, using artisan techniques in a useful modern men’s belt, it is designed to last, and over time will develop its own patina. Hand stitched in a range of leather choices, the belt is a destined to be favourite under the Christmas tree.
There are loads of other amazing makers out there.
